Assessment Policy
(Effective from Academic Year 2025-26)


1. Philosophy and Purpose

At Mahaveer Global School, assessment is an integral part of the teaching-learning process. It aims to support and enhance student learning, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback. The policy aligns with our mission to promote holistic development, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.


2. Types of Assessment

a. Formative Assessment (FA):

  • Ongoing assessments conducted during the learning process.

  • Includes quizzes, class tests, oral questions, assignments, group work, class participation, and project work.

  • Focuses on identifying learning gaps and improving performance.

  • Conducted at regular intervals (minimum 2 per term).

b. Summative Assessment (SA):

  • End-of-term/semester evaluation of cumulative learning.

  • Includes written exams, practicals (where applicable), and major projects.

  • Conducted twice a year (Mid-Term & Final Examination).

Assessment Policy (CGBSE Affiliated School)

1. Purpose of Assessment

Assessment at Mahaveer Global School is designed to:

  • Track student learning and progress.

  • Provide feedback to students and parents.

  • Support teachers in planning and instruction.

  • Promote holistic development and competency-based learning.


2. Assessment Structure (CGBSE Guidelines)

A. Classes I to VIII (Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation - CCE)

  • Formative Assessments (FA) – 4 in a year (2 per term)

    • Activities, projects, quizzes, oral tests, classwork, homework.

    • 40% weightage.

  • Summative Assessments (SA) – 2 in a year (Mid-term & Annual Exam)

    • Written tests based on syllabus covered.

    • 60% weightage.

Grading System: Based on 9-point scale (A1 to E) as per CGBSE norms.


B. Classes IX and X

  • Periodic Tests – 3 per year.

  • Half-Yearly Exam – September

  • Pre-Board/Annual Exam – January/February

  • Internal Assessment:

    • Portfolio (classwork, homework, assignments)

    • Subject Enrichment Activities

    • Attendance and discipline

Final result includes Internal Assessment (20%) + Board Exam/Annual Exam (80%)


C. Classes XI and XII (Senior Secondary)

  • Unit Tests – 2 to 3 per year

  • Half-Yearly Examination

  • Pre-Board Examination (for Class XII)

  • Practical/Internal Assessments as per subject guidelines

  • Annual Exam (for Class XI) / Board Exam (Class XII)


3. Assessment Tools

  • Written Tests (Objective/Subjective)

  • Oral Questioning

  • Practical Work

  • Assignments & Projects

  • Observation & Peer Feedback

  • Digital Assessments (where applicable)


4. Promotion Criteria

  • Minimum passing marks: 33% in each subject (Theory + Internal)

  • Regular attendance (at least 75%)

  • Completion of all assignments and projects


5. Reporting & Parent Involvement

  • Report cards shared after every Term Exam

  • Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) held after each major assessment

  • Continuous communication through diary, mobile apps, or school portal


6. Special Provisions

  • Inclusive Education: Modified assessments for children with special needs

  • Re-Test Policy: Conducted for genuine medical/emergency absences

4. Grading System

Grades will be assigned based on the marks obtained in line with CBSE guidelines:

41–50 C2
33–40 D
Below 33 E (Needs Improvement)

5. Promotion Policy

  • Promotion is based on the student’s overall performance in both formative and summative assessments.

  • A minimum of 33% marks must be obtained in each subject.

  • Regular attendance (minimum 75%) is mandatory for eligibility for promotion.


6. Special Provisions

  • Students with special educational needs (SEN) will be assessed using modified tools as per IEP (Individual Education Plan).

  • Parents will be informed of assessment outcomes through report cards and PTMs (Parent-Teacher Meetings).


7. Ethical Guidelines

  • Cheating, plagiarism, or use of unfair means during any assessment will result in disciplinary action.

  • Transparency in assessment is ensured through regular feedback, review of answer scripts, and grievance redressal mechanisms.


8. Review and Revision

This policy is reviewed annually by the Academic Council of Mahaveer Global School to align with updated educational practices and regulatory norms.
